POLICE chased a drink-driver on the M61 at speeds of more than 135mph.

Ross Ridgway, 28, has now been handed a 14-month prison sentence following the high speed chase on August 18 this year.

Lancashire Police first spotted a Mercedes A200 AMG driving erratically in the Lytham area earlier that day. The car was later seen by officers on the M6, in Lancashire.

Officers began to follow the car as the driver made off at more than 100mph.

The pursuit continued for almost 10 minutes onto the M61 at Bolton .

The police vehicle following the car reached speeds of 138mph but the Mercedes was way ahead of them.

Police used a ‘stinger’ to bring the car to a full stop. With four flat tyres it eventually slowed down and stopped on the hard shoulder.

Ridgway, of Bosley Road, Stockport, was found to be over the drink drive limit. He was arrested and appeared at Preston Crown Court.

Ridgway was charged with driving while disqualified, driving while over the legal drink limit and driving with no insurance.

A judge handed Ridgway a 14 month prison sentence and he has been banned from driving for a further 38 months.

He must take an extended driving test before he will be allowed to drive again.
