Airport staff find £300k of cocaine in hot chocolate tins

-

BORDER Force officials found £300,000 of cocaine in eight cans of ‘instant hot chocolate’ in a suitcase at Manchester Airport.

Around 4kg of the Class A drug was discovered after a passenger, who had flown in from Jamaica, was stopped.

In among flip flops, boxers and socks, were the cans, which purported to contain drinking chocolate.

A man has been charged over the incident on September 30, Border Force bosses said.

The case has been handed to the National Crime Agency (NCA).

Patricia Hannan, assistant director for the northern Border Force branch, said: “This is just one example of the crucial work that Border Force officers do every day to help keep the UK safe.

“Detections of dangerous Class A drugs such as this are testament to their dedication and expertise.

“Illegal drugs have a significant impact on our society, being the root cause behind countless burglaries, thefts and robberies.

“They are also used as a commodity by organised criminals linked to violence and exploitation of the vulnerable.

“Working with our colleagues at the NCA, we are determined to do all we can to stop drug traffickers.

“Those convicted of drug importation offences face considerable prison sentences.”
