Sour end to Sale win as Yarde suffers knee blow

- RUGBY UNION

SALE winger Marland Yarde says he is staying positive despite suffering a horrendous knee injury.

The 26-year-old suffered a dislocated knee five minutes from the end of Saturday’s Gallagher Premiership win over Newcastle Falcons at the AJ Bell Stadium.

It soured an otherwise successful day for Sale, as they returned to winning ways.

And Yarde, who joined the club from Harlequins last year, is keen to keep that positivity going.

He tweeted from hospital: “Thank you to all the supporters, friends & family for the kind messages.

“Obviously devastated with what’s happened and dislocating my knee but will stay positive until I know the full extent of what I have damaged!

“On a positive, well done to the boys on the WIN!”

Sale now turn their attention to the the European Challenge Cup in which they face Perpignon in France on Friday night.

Director of rugby Steve Diamond drafted in forwards coach Dorian West last month to work with his squad, and says the move is already paying off.

“Dorian knows his stuff,” said Diamond.

“When you bring good players to the club they ask questions, and I didn’t think the lads who were looking after the forwards could answer it in the way I wanted it answering.

“Dorian does that. He’s got a lot of experience,” he added.
