Norwegian wonderkid is set for trial with United

- By CIARAN KELLY

UNITED hope to take Norwegian wonderkid Odin Thiago Holm on trial in the coming months.

The box-to-box midfielder caught the eye at the Sambor Youth Cup in Poland last summer and was named player of the tournament after scoring five goals in six games.

Holm followed that up with a man-of-the-match performance in front of a host of scouts while captaining Norway’s under-15s in their win against Sweden last month.

The youngster, who signed a sponsorship deal with Nike at the age of just 13, is on the books of Norwegian First Division side Ranheim, but it is understood United have been in contact about taking Holm on trial.

Ranheim are willing to allow the 15-year-old to travel to Manchester, so the Reds would only have to pay a modest compensation fee if the trial is successful as Holm has not yet signed a professional contract.

Holm’s season with Ranheim’s academy finishes in November, but it may well be the New Year when the midfielder eventually gets put through his paces at Carrington.

“The trial will most likely happen in January,” a Ranheim club source confirmed to M.E.N. Sport. “He will finish this season with Ranheim, and a trial will happen after Christmas.

“Odin is enjoying his football and works hard every day in training.”
