Dale back to seaside for Fleetwood Trophy clash

- By SCOTT ANDERSON

ROCHDALE face fellow League One side Fleetwood Town at Highbury in the Checkatrade Trophy tonight.

Dale travel back to the Fylde coast having earned a point against Blackpool in a 2-2 draw at the weekend.

Keith Hill’s side top Northern Group B after beating Bury 2-1 in their opening game – with goals from Zach Clough and Matty Gillam – while Fleetwood were beaten on penalties by Leicester Under-21s after a 2-2 draw.

Luke Matheson, 15, came on as a 13th-minute substitute for Dale in their opening group victory, winning man of the match on his Dale debut, and manager Keith Hill is expected to once again make a number of changes tonight (7.45pm).

It was a lively affair on Dale’s last visit to Fleetwood in August, with Ian Henderson scoring an injury-time goal in the 2-2 draw against Joey Barton’s side.

OLDHAM travel to League One strugglers Bradford City in search of their first points in the Checkatrade Trophy.

The Latics suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Barnsley in their first outing in Northern Group F, while Bradford beat Everton Under-21s on penalties.

Frankie Bunn’s side are unbeaten in six games on the road this season – winning two and drawing four – and they’ll hope to continue that form at Valley Parade this evening (7.30pm). Bradford have lost four of their six home league games this season.
