Swedish centre-back Granqvist linked to United move

ANDREAS Granqvist has refused to rule out a move to United in the January transfer window.

The Helsingsborgs IF defender has been linked with a shock switch to Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his defence.

Mourinho was keen to sign another centre-back in the summer transfer window with Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire, Diego Godin and Jerome Boateng all high-profile names that were linked with big-money moves to United.

But after failing to land the signing he desired, Mourinho has now reportedly switched his attention to Granqvist. Reports suggested the 33-year-old could make a January switch to Old Trafford, 11 years since beginning his first spell in the Premier League with Wigan Athletic.

And the defender has confirmed there have been talks with his agent.

Asked if there had been contact with United, Granqvist told Expressen: “You can call Martin Dahlin, (his agent), I do not put so much energy around it, except that I’m happy and proud that they have mentioned me.

“But there is certainly an interest. Should it be in January that there will be a concrete proposal, I’ll get it then and HIF will take it then. ”

He added that he was flattered to be linked with a move to Old Trafford, saying: “I do not close any doors to anything.

“But it’s so far away and as long as nothing is concrete it’s mostly speculation. I’m flattered to even be mentioned in connection with such a big team as Manchester United.”
