Yarde to go Stateside for knee op

- By CHRIS OSTICK

MARLAND Yarde is set to see a knee specialist who works with NFL players in America as he recovers from his ‘horrendous’ injury.

The Sale Sharks winger is out for the rest of the season after damaging ligaments and dislocating the joint in the win over Newcastle at the weekend.

He is set to undergo surgery in the next few weeks and Sale’s director of rugby Steve Diamond has revealed the club already has plans to send him over to America as part of his rehab, with an eye to the 26-year-old playing a full part in pre-season next year.

“Marland has an horrific injury,” said Diamond.

“It is everything apart from the bones in the knee which are damaged.

“The light at the end of the tunnel is the surgeons have suggested it is a rebuild of the ACL and MCL but the other ligament, the PCL, seems to be intact, which is good.

“When the swelling goes down in the next week or two, they will operate. Hopefully it will be done in one hit but it may take two.

“But we could see him back just at the end of the season, but he should be fine for next pre-season.

“There are some rehab ideas we already have for him – sending him to America to an NFL guy who is renowned as a knee specialist and there is another guy who works with skiers.

“We are 100 percent behind him.”
