Market’s new mugs have a nose for fun

- By DAISY JACKSON newsdesk@men-news.co.uk @CityLifeManc

EVERY year the Manchester Christmas Markets come up with brand new limitededition designs for their mugs, and this year’s have finally been revealed.

The 2018 mugs have been made to be interactive and double up as props - and they’re as Instagrammable as possible.

The design for this year’s coffee mug is a reindeer nose that lines up with the drinker’s own face as they tuck into their hot chocolate (maybe with a nip of brandy in it), while mistletoe on a navy blue background adorns the Gluhwein mug.

The Christmas Market mugs have crept up in price again, costing £3 each.

Although you can return your mug to the stall at the end of your visit and reclaim your £3 deposit, many choose to keep them as collector’s items and souvenirs.

The markets, which will take place between November 9 and December 22, with an extra date on December 23 at Albert Square, will be upon us before we know it.

This will be the last year they take place at Albert Square for a few years while the Town Hall’s refurbishment is underway.

Councillor Pat Karney, Manchester City Council’s Christmas spokesperson, said in a statement: “We have already been inundated with people asking about the mugs. As soon as the market open we’ll have queues around the block.

“We know how much visitors to the city love the designs each year and there’s some devotees who have a collection going back years - and this year’s designs are a real Christmas cracker.”

Councillor Luthfur Rahman, Manchester City Council’s executive member for culture and leisure, said: “Our mugs have become a real collector’s item.

“More than 100,000 mugs are made each year and every year they are all snapped up by visitors to the market.”
