Take a bow. . . and bring out your inner-Robin Hood

A BRAND new archery tag centre is set to open in Manchester this weekend, offering a completely safe way to practice your archery skills on real moving targets.

You can unleash your inner Katniss Everdeen or Robin Hood on your own friends and family – but without actually inflicting any harm on your nearest and dearest.

The Archertype is billed as a combination between dodgeball and archery, and works a lot like paintball – though it’s significantly less painful than that.

Each arrow is foam-tipped, so although you’ll feel it hit you, it apparently feels a lot more like being hit with a beanbag, and they provide all necessary safety equipment.

The new dedicated venue is located in Ardwick, and comes complete with a training range to get you familiar with the equipment.

A local artist has painted a pair of wings to the wall for photo opportunities with your team before you hit the game floor.

The Archertype, which is suitable for anyone aged 10 or older, offers group sessions for parties of six or more, or open play sessions for individuals and smaller groups.

It challenges speed, coordination, teamwork and decisionmaking over an hour-long session.

Players have 15 minutes before the games begin to practice in the training zone.

Archery tag originated in Canada and the USA, but Timothy Wan is now bringing the activity to Manchester.

For Saturday’s opening day, they’ll be offering a 50 per cent discount to players over five different sessions.

The Archertype is located at Unit 10A, 37 - 49 Devonshire Street North, Ardwick, M12 6JR, and is open between 12pm and 9pm Monday to Friday, and between 9am and 10pm on Sundays.

You can book your place at www.thearchertype.co.uk/ booknow.
