Hotel extends welcome after more bus trouble

- By CIARAN KELLY

UNITED have never approached Hotel Football to stay there before games but ‘would always be welcome’, according to a source close to the Class of ‘92.

For the second successive Champions League game, the United team bus was delayed on the way to Old Trafford on Tuesday night because of heavy traffic – despite meeting at a hotel closer to the ground.

United usually stay at the Lowry but changed their plans after being fined £13,000 by UEFA for arriving late before their clash with Valencia earlier this month. The team bus left the Lowry at 6pm but it did not get to Sir Matt Busby Way until 7.16pm and the kick-off was put back to 8.05pm as a result.

Remarkably, despite staying at the Hilton Garden Inn, just half a mile from Old Trafford at Lancashire County Cricket Club, United’s team bus was again delayed before their huge game against Juventus and the players did not arrive until 7.09pm.

Jose Mourinho got off the bus early to walk the final stretch to personally inform UEFA delegates for fear of United being punished again.

It seems the Redswill have to readdress their travel plans given the congestion surrounding Old Trafford on match days and a number of fans have wondered why the team do not just stay at Hotel Football, a minute walk from the stadium.

“We have never been approached but obviously the team is always very welcome to stay with us whenever they want to,” a Hotel Football source told M.E.N. Sport.
