Bunn wants Latics to build on vital win

-

OLDHAM boss Frank Bunn believes his side’s 2-0 victory over Cheltenham can prove the catalyst for a push up League Two.

Second-half goals from Jonathan Benteke and Callum Lang on Tuesday night provided the Latics’ first win at home since September 1, ending a sequence of five league games without maximum points.

Bunn said: “Some of our performances during our winless run were good, I just felt we lost our way a little bit.

“The players are hungry and are showing good levels of fitness. Injuries haven’t been kind to us, but it’s opened the door for other players and, thankfully, some of them are taking their chance. Those in possession of the shirt know they need to keep it, those not in possession need to try to win them back.”

Bunn believes Lang can play an integral part in the team’s top seven bid following his brilliant individual goal, which sealed the three points.

Bunn said: “Callum’s so honest and he keeps working, not letting anything get him down and he got his rewards with a great finish.”

The Latics travel to Northampton on Saturday and Bunn is expecting a difficult task after the Cobblers’ 5-0 thumping of Macclesfield in midweek.

“It’s going to be a tough game. I looked at last Saturday’s results and there were only four home wins in our division. The results are so erratic – as Cambridge’s draw at Lincoln proved – so nobody is getting carried away.”
