Conte ‘interested in becoming Reds boss’

- By RICHARD FAY

FORMER Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is monitoring the managerial situation at United, according to reports in Italy.

Calciomercato suggest the Italian coach is waiting to see what the future holds for Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford before he considers any new job offers.

Contrasting reports in Spain understand Conte could be offered the Real Madrid managerial role after Julen Lopetegui was sacked last night.

However, Italian reporter and Conte insider Giovanni Guardala claims the 49-year-old would love to manage United, due to an admiration for attacking quartet Paul Pogba, Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku and Ander Herrera.

Guardala said, as reported by Calciomercato: “Conte is going back to London after his holidays.

“There are many rumours about his future, Real Madrid is tempting him but Manchester United is a team that Conte really likes.

“There are players like Paul Pogba, whom he coached at Juventus. Or Alexis Sanchez, Herrera and Lukaku, three players he’s always wanted to sign.

“At the moment nothing his decided with Real Madrid.”

In terms of other transfer news, United have been told it would cost £133m to sign Jordi Alba from Barcelona.

A report from Sport insists the Catalan club have slapped a huge price-tag on the Spain international in an attempt to ward off any interest.
