Lions retain two and add prop Halton as they shape their squad
SWINTON have continued to form their squad for 2019 with the retention of Paddy Jones and Chris Worrall, plus the addition of former Leigh Centurions prop Frankie Halton.
Second-rower Jones came through the academy system at dual-registration partners Wigan Warriors and arrived at the Lions in June after spells with Rochdale, Dewsbury and French side Villeneuve.
“I’m really happy to sign with a great bunch of lads,” said the 21-year-old. “It was a tough season but I enjoyed it and learned a lot. I’m looking forward to next year.”
Swinton-born forward Worrall joined his hometown club ahead of the 2018 campaign after a spell with Gloucestershire All Golds and made 11 appearances for Stuart Littler’s side.
“I’m made up to sign another year with Swinton and hoping to become a consistent Championship player this season,” he said.
“I feel like I have improved as the season went on and I know I will only get better with another pre-season under my belt and have full confidence in the coaching staff to get the best out of me.
“There is no better feeling playing for my hometown team and I’m looking forward to playing in front of them once again next season.”
Littler said: “I am happy with the progress Chris made and I believe that he will again progress over the course of pre-season and into next year.
“Chris is again a quality person who strives to get better so fits into the culture I am trying to build at the club.
“He will ask questions and is always keen to learn and develop. As a club we are proud to provide opportunities to young local products and we believe as a team we can move this club forwards together.”
Former Crossfields amateur Halton is an England Lions Under-23 representative and joins up with the Lions after a season in the National Conference Premier Division with Leigh Miners Rangers. Littler added: “Frankie is a player with huge potential.”
