ROCKY ROLE FOR CORRIE BEV

CORONATION Street legend Beverely Callard is to star in the rock and roll musical The Rocky Horror Show.

The actress, who plays Weatherfie­ld icon Liz McDonald, will be the narrator in a national tour of the racy show, which opens in Brighton in December and travels across the country until November next year.

The Corrie star will share the role with comedian Dom Joly, TV presenter Alison Hammond, comedian Steve Punt and actor Philip Franks in the new production of Richard O’Brien’s hit musical, dubbed ‘panto for grown-ups.’

Beverley, who has played barmaid and former Rovers Return landlady Liz since 1989, will be the narrator for the show’s run in Manchester at the Opera House from Wednesday January 9 to January 26. She said: “Wow! I’m really looking forward to joining the Rocky Horror family.

“I’ve been Time Warping for years as you all know. And I can’t wait to be back on stage at my favourite theatre, the Manchester Opera House.

“Get ready all you Rocky Horror fans, let’s make this strange journey together. See you all there!”

Beverley’s character was recently at the centre of gripping drama on the soap after discoverin­g that her ex-husband, Jim, and his girlfriend, Hannah Gilmore, had been pretending that his new love was their late daughter Katie, who died shortly after she was born.

The musical will star Blue singer and Hollyoaks actor Duncan James and West End star Stephen Webb as Frank, Strictly Come Dancing’s Joanne Clifton as Janet, a1 singer Ben Adams as Brad and Kristian Lavercombe as Riff Raff.

Directed by Christophe­r Luscombe, the show features famous musical numbers which have made The Rocky Horror Show a huge hit for over four decades, including Sweet Transvesti­te, Science Fiction/Double Feature, Dammit Janet and The Time Warp.

The Rocky Horror Show tells the story of Brad and his fiancee Janet, two squeaky clean college kids, who meet Dr Frank’n’Furter by chance when their car breaks down outside his house on their way to visit their college professor.
