Wet weather may dampen fireworks

-

FORECASTERS have warned this weekend’s weather may make fireworks displays a damp squib – but Bonfire Night should go with a bang.

Rain, showers and breezy conditions are forecast for today and tomorrow, but there’s better news on Monday – Bonfire Night, which will be largely dry – great news for those planning to attend the Heaton Park and Wythenshawe Park displays.

This weekend’s conditions are due to the remnants of Hurricane Oscar sweeping into the region, which will bring with it strong blustery winds.

Patchy rain is also expected this evening - prompting a warning for those heading out to the City Airport fireworks event to bring waterproof clothing.

By tomorrow the gusty winds are expected to calm down.

However, there will be cloudy skies and drizzly rain later on in the evening.

On Monday the wet and windy weather is expected to clear and will be the best night for bonfires.

The conditions will also be quite mild, with temperatures reaching highs of 120C.

John West, a meteorologist for the Met Office, said: “We have got a low pressure system coming in, which is the remnants of Storm Oscar.

“It has weakened as it has moved its way north. What we are going to see is a spell of unsettled weather and windy across the UK.”
