Top chef Aiden leaves 20 Stories

- By EMILY HEWARD

AIDEN Byrne has stepped down as chef director of Spinningfields restaurant 20 Stories after eight months.

The former Michelin starred chef left his position at Manchester House last year to head up the kitchen at D&D London’s rooftop restaurant and bar in March.

Now the company has announced his departure.

CEO Des Gunewardena said: “We are really pleased with what we have created at 20 Stories; it got off to the most incredible start and every day goes from strength to strength.

“Revenues have been way above our expectations. Aiden has obviously played a significant part in the success of 20 Stories and we would like to thank him very much for his contribution. We offer him our very best wishes for the future.”

Aiden made history as the youngest person ever to earn a Michelin star at the age of 22 in 2002, for his cooking at The Commons Restaurant in Dublin.

He was appointed by Living Ventures to open Manchester House in 2013 with the aim of bringing a star back to Manchester.

The restaurant closed last month along with Living Ventures stablemate Artisan, with bosses citing ‘rising costs and high rents’ among their struggles.

Byrne, who also owns Lymm gastropub The Church Green, has yet to confirm his next move. The M.E.N has contacted him for a comment.
