Foden is in the list of Golden Boys with Red Dalot

- By CHARLOTTE DUNCKER

CITY’S Phil Foden and United’s Diogo Dalot have both made the shortlist for the 2018 European Golden Boy award.

The award, which was established by Italian publication Tuttosport, is given to the best player in Europe under the age of 21.

The winner is selected by 30 journalists and the shortlist has now halved from 40 to 20.

City midfielder Foden is one of the 20 to have made the cut after pushing his way into Pep Guardiola’s first team set up despite only being 18.

The Stockport-born midfielder has impressed over the past year after winning the golden ball award at the FIFA U17 World Cup and was consequently named the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year last December.

United new boy Dalot has also been nominated for his performances for Porto last season.

Jose Mourinho signed the 19-year-old in the summer but through injury he has only made two appearances since the start of the season.

Also making the shortlist are Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Everton midfielder Tom Davies.

Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba have both picked up the award in the past but it’s unlikely that the award will be heading to either The Etihad or Old Trafford, as the favourite to win it again is PSG star Kylian Mbappe.
