Latics left frustrated by keeper

-

OLDHAM Athletic were left frustrated by keeper Ross Fitzsimons as they were held to a goalless draw at Notts County in League Two last night.

The Latics rained in 19 shots to County’s five, but were unable to break the deadlock.

Ishmael Miller and Peter Clarke both had good efforts saved by the keeper in the first half, while Andy Taylor’s header was cleared off the line by Jamie Turley following a corner from Gevaro Nepomuceno.

And Nepomuceno was in the action again when his cross was headed just wide by Callum Lang.

Fitzsimons then pulled off another save to deny Dan Gardner, while County almost nicked it in added time but Enzio Boldewijn’s shot hit the post.

ROCHDALE host Leicester City Under-21s in the Checkatrade Trophy tonight at the Crown Oil Arena.

Keith Hill’s men head into the match in decent form, winning three of their last five games and have already qualified for the next round of the competition.

“We’ve qualified already for the knockout stages so there’s no pressure on us,” said Dale midfielder Matty Dunn.

“Hopefully, we can go out and put on a performance like we’ve done in the last two games.

“Our thoughts have been with everyone at Leicester after what happened there.

“It has been a hard week for everyone there and it’s going to be tough for them.

“We’ve got to go about our business and be respectful in every way.”
