Person loses fingers in blast horror

A person had to have their fingers amputated after a firework exploded in their hand.

The incident in sale has sparked fresh warnings from ambulance chiefs about the dangers of fireworks, sparklers and bonfires.

Ambulance crews were also called to stalybridg­e after a firework exploded in the hand of a 17-year-old boy, and in Whitley, in Wigan, a rocket went off in somebody’s face.

on Bonfire night itself, the ambulance service treated two patients in sale and Bolton who had suffered injuries to their eyes as a result of fireworks.

A two-year-old had to be treated for smoke inhalation in Wigan and three people were injured after a firework was thrown through a bus window in rusholme.

Another person was hurt in Gorton after a rocket went off in their hand.

The north West Ambulance service was unable to provide further details about the incidents due to confidenti­ality.

It said: “Bonfire night and the evenings around november 5 are always a busy time for us and this year was no different.

“We were called to a number of incidents involving fireworks and bonfires in Greater Manchester, including two people who suffered damage to their eyes and another person who had significan­t injuries to their hand after a firework exploded.”
