Storm put Nottingham defeat behind them to bring down Flyers

- ICE HOCKEY

MANCHESTER Storm secured their sixth win in seven home games as they beat Fife Flyers 3-2 at the Storm Shelter in Altrincham.

Having lost 3-0 at Nottingham Panthers in the Challenge Cup 24 hours earlier, Evan Richardson, Mike Hammond and captain Dane Byers netted to see off the Flyers.

“Opposing teams hate coming to Altrincham and our players and fans maximise the home advantage,” said Storm head coach Ryan Finnerty.

“The fans can get right up to the action behind the screens and the atmosphere at the Fife game was incredible. The fans made a noise from start to finish.”

The defeat to Nottingham wasn’t too damaging, with Storm having already qualified for the knock-out stages of the competition.

But Skipper Byers knows they have to address their away form.

He said: “We set out at the start of the season to be competitive in all the competitions and all we are lacking now is a bit of consistency on the road.”

And it’s a message enforced by Linden Springer, who believes Storm have the players to make a real impact this season.

He said: “We have a great group of players here, and we all look out for one another. If we keep winning at home and secure a few wins on the road we will soon climb the table.

“With the league only having 11 teams this term the teams are all competitive and any team is capable of beating anyone.”

Storm take on Milton Keynes in Altrincham on Friday at 7.30pm before making the trip north on Saturday to play Fife Flyers.
