Police plea to catch carjackers

POLICE are urgently appealing for informatio­n after a dad was attacked with a baseball bat during a terrifying carjacking.

Paul Schofield, 58, was left with a horrific head wound after carjackers hit him over the head with the weapon on Leamington Street, Rochdale.

The dad-of-three was parked up when a white Nissan Juke passed by.

Three men armed with baseball bats got out of the car and approached Mr Schofield’s £13,000 Ford Fiesta ST.

They demanded he get out of the car before they smashed the baseball bat into his head.

The trio made off in Mr Schofield’s Ford and the Juke.

Mr Schofield, from Norden, was left with a 5ins gash to his head that needed 18 stitches.

The dad-of-three factory worker was driving home after going out for a meal in Hebden Bridge with his ex-wife, whose handbag was also stolen in the robbery.

He was dropping his former partner off at home when the viscous attack took place.

Police are still searching for the black performanc­e car, with the registrati­on MM17 YAF. Det Sgt Charles Stewart from GMP’s Rochdale Division said: “We are determined to catch those responsibl­e for this crime and have released pictures of the vehicle as part of our enquiries.

“Even the smallest detail is often enough to open new lines of enquiry and lead police to the offenders. Please get in touch if you know something.”
