Lowe on a high with his hot-shot Shakers

- By DAVE CROWTHER-GREEN

BURY manager Ryan Lowe has praised his side’s attacking pressure following their impressive 5-0 win over Dover Athletic which has booked them a place in tonight’s FA Cup second round draw.

The Shakers were looking to make it back-to-back wins in all competitions after their 4-1 league victory at Macclesfield last weekend, and make it through to the second round of the Cup for the first time since the 2015/16 season.

After early pressure from the visitors in the opening few minutes, midfielder Jay O’Shea put Bury ahead after connecting with Callum McFadzean’s cross from the left-hand side and slotting the ball past Dover keeper Mitch Walker in the 12th minute.

Danny Mayor then helped put any home fans’ worries to rest just six minutes later, picking up the ball inside his own half, accelerating towards the Dover goal and firing a shot past Walker from outside the box to finish a stunning solo move.

Byron Moore returned to the starting XI for the match and added a third just before half-time, poking the ball under the keeper’s legs inside the box after latching on to Nicky Maynard’s pass on 36 minutes.

The Shakers inflicted more misery on their opponents in the second half, firstly through Moore tapping in Neil Danns’ cross from close range for his second on 64 minutes.

Substitute Dominic Telford got the final goal of the game in stoppage time, drifting past the Dover defence and sending his effort into the far corner from outside the box.

It’s the fourth time already this season Bury have scored four or more goals in a game, something Lowe is pleased to see from his team.

He said: “It’s nice to score goals as the more times you score goals, the better chance you have of winning.

“We won’t always score loads of goals in threes, fours or fives and I’m certainly happy when they come along, but I’m also just as happy when there are no goals conceded as well.

“We always felt that if we could get a couple of early goals then we’d dominate the game from start to finish.

“We’re just happy that whoever scores the goals, the possession is really key to them as the opposition can’t score when we’ve got it.”
