AGUERO: I DIDN’T WANT TO BE SUBSTITUTED

-

SERGIO Aguero says he wanted to stay on the pitch and help his City side secure a derby win.

Aguero scored the second goal in the Blue’s 3-1 win, but made way on the 75th minute for Ilkay Gundogan, who scored the third.

As he went off, Aguero was involved in a passionate discussion with manager Pep Guardiola, and the striker revealed after the game he was telling his manager how he felt he was able to continue.

But Aguero said that there was no issue between him and Guardiola.

“It’s fine,” he said. “I said I will work because we’re winning.”

Team-mate Gundogan joked that the pair were talking about Aguero’s new haircut, and also revealed the tactical change that saw City see the game out after Anthony Martial’s penalty put United back in the game.

Gundogan said: “[He told me] to keep the rhythm high as always, but also to keep the ball and to use the free spaces and we put Raheem [Sterling] striker and Bernardo on the wing. I played in the middle with David [Silva] and Fernandinho.

“So we just wanted to keep the ball and to create more, and it worked out this time. We are very happy.

“It was very important to score the third one, because at 2-1 it is an open game, and we know especially from last April with United are always able to score. Obviously the third one killed it, because it was also so late. So yeah, we feel very happy.”
