KATE Wright was obviously expecting revellers to be partying hard at her fiancé Rio Ferdinand’s 40th birthday celebratio­ns because she gifted guests with flip-flops for tired feet. Kate threw her husband-to-be a lavish party at his own Italian restaurant, Rosso, in Manchester’s Spring Gardens, to mark his landmark birthday.

They partied until 3am on Saturday night and the happy couple have since been sharing photos and videos from the party with their followers on Instagram.

One video posted by former The Only Way Is Essex star Kate showed United legend Rio dancing gleefully to the will.i.am and Cody Wise’s hit It’s My Birthday as a saxophonis­t played along.

Extravagan­t decoration­s at the bash included a large light display of the birthday boy’s name and pal Umar Kamani – the boss of global fashion brand PrettyLitt­leThing – posted a photo of his place at the table decked out with a gold-framed photo of the friends together.

A photo gallery on the wall displayed Rio’s different hairstyles over the years and another photo shared by Kate showed piles of lilac flip-flops in the bathroom to ease aching feet after all the dancing.

“Can’t have a party without a load of flip-flops for sore feet,” she explained.

Guests tucked into a special ‘Rio’s 40th’ menu, with fillet steak, lamb cutlets, sea bass, chicken and pasta and mushroom ravioli for mains before hitting the dancefloor.
