MACE, the construction business which is project managing the £330m Manchester town hall revamp, has doubled revenues over the last five years.

Bosses laid out ambitious plans in 2013 to become a £2bn turnover company by 2020 – but have achieved that two years early with a third of revenues now coming from international projects.

The company, which has 200 staff in the north west, also announced it will invest £350m in research and development activities to increase productivity and become more efficient.

Mace’s historic projects include delivering the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games, as part of CLM, and western Europe’s tallest building, The Shard.

In Manchester, the group project managed the transformation of Manchester Central Library and the town hall extension.

More recent projects include Landmark 81 in Vietnam, Birmingham New Street Station, Tate Modern’s Switch House in London, Dubai Expo 2020, Porsche’s North American HQ and the 2019 Pan-American Games in Peru.

Colin Harvey, director for the north at Mace , said: “We’re delighted to see Mace achieve this turnover as the business has had a proud history of delivering key projects across the north of England for more than two decades. “Recent developments we’ve been project managing in the region include the refurbishment of Manchester town hall, Christie’s Proton Beam Therapy Centre, John Lewis’s flagship development in Leeds, and the Wind Turbine Factory in Hull.”

Mark Reynolds, CEO of Mace, said: “Over the past 28 years, Mace has been on an amazing journey. We have seen the market change, we have seen great achievements and admittedly learnt some lessons along the way.

“Our company mission is to continuously pursue a better way, which has helped us to grow and deliver on our promises.

“I am proud to say we have reached £2bn turnover, but more importantly, I am proud to say that we have the best people, who make up the best teams on some of the best projects in the world.”

Earlier this year, Mace published details of its 2022 strategy, which built on the previous targets the company had set.

It provides new opportunities for staff, ensuring the company delivers services to clients, while remaining ‘a resilient and profitable business.’
