FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE PLAY THE ARENA:

- By WILL METCALFE

FLORENCE and the Machine will make their return to Manchester today, headlining the arena. It’s Florence Welch’s first return to the city since her 2015 How Big tour, where she also headlined the same venue.

It was the year that saw her step up to headline Glastonbury, after the Foo Fighters dropped out due to Dave Grohl’s broken leg.

Following in the footsteps of other default headliners such as Pulp and Gorillaz, Welch rose to the pressure of the occasion and delivered a career-defining set.

Earlier this year, Florence surprised fans with intimate shows at Halifax’s Victoria Theatre and Scunthorpe Baths Hall.

This latest tour comes in support of her fourth album High as Hope. Can I still get tickets? Florence’s Manchester Arena show is officially sold out but a handful of fan-to-fan resale tickets were available via Seetickets, priced from £38 at the time of writing. What are the stage times? The doors are due to open at 6pm, but the exact stage times have yet to be confirmed. With there only being one support band, it is likely the opener will play from around 7.30pm til 8pm, with the headline set playing from around 8.30/8.45pm.

That’s just a rough estimate though, so make sure you arrive in plenty of time to pass through the venue’s strict security checks - and so you don’t miss any of the music.

Follow @ManchesterArena on Twitter, where they’re usually confirmed on the day. Who’s supporting? Support comes in form of Brooklynbased indie-pop duo Wet. The band have released two albums, 2016’s Don’t You and Still Run, which was released last year. Based on the previous dates of the tour, it seems pretty certain that the setlist will not vary much.
