SALFORD City extended their unbeaten run to 18 games in the league courtesy of a 0-0 draw at a resolute Solihull Moors on Saturday.

In a big weekend at the top of the Vanarama National League it was fourth versus second at the ATG Stadium, with leaders Leyton Orient also travelling to third-placed Wrexham.

Chances were few and far between in the opening exchanges as both sides sounded each other out, and it was Moors centre-back Liam Daly who had the first effort, volleying a shot just over Chris Neal’s crossbar.

Just short of the half hour mark, Ibou Touray went even closer for Salford as he swung a cross in from the left that had Ryan Boot beaten, but the ball also skimmed off the top of the bar to Solihull’s relief.

The second period luckily provided fans with more entertainment as Luke Maxwell and Adam Rooney both went close for either side.

A controversial moment came in the 55th minute when Adi Yussuf had a goal ruled out by referee Joe Hull, but it later transpired he had caught Neal on the chin in challenging to win the ball and create the chance.

From there it was Salford who took the impetus, with Rory Gaffney and Tom Walker having shots closed down, and Neal stretched to his right to deny Dan Carter before watching Jermaine Hylton hit the post.

The best chance fell for Lois Maynard late on as Gaffney won possession in the middle and drove into the area before squaring to the St Kitts & Nevis international who had a clear sight of goal.

The shot that followed was on target, accurately placed, but Ryan Boot pulled off a tremendous save to deny the visitors a late winner.

Harrogate Town visit Salford tomorrow night in another top-of-the-table clash, and fans can pay on the gate at The Peninsula Stadium.
