Hill hits out at home fans at Dale ‘library’

-

KEITH Hill hit out at Rochdale’s silent supporters following his side’s 1-0 win against Accrington Stanley at the Crown Oil Arena.

Ian Henderson’s 62nd-minute header earned Dale the three points and while Hill was delighted to edge a close contest, he was less than impressed with the home fans.

“Ian Henderson is like me, he’s been here a long time so that leaves you open to criticism and it seems to me that everyone wants to criticise him, criticise me, criticise the way we play, criticise us being in League One,” he said. “The away supporters were right – this is a library.

“Create some atmosphere for God’s sake and support the team. It’s getting like toothache.

“It was a close game, it could have gone either way.

“We’ve come out on top but it doesn’t mean we are the better side, we were even all the way through.

“We scored a good goal and defended well on the day, which obviously helps.”

Stanley were the better side in the first half, Dan Barlaser going close with a 25-yard drive in the opening minute and Billy Kee seeing Dale stopper Josh Lillis save two shots in quick succession later in the half. Sean McConville was also denied by Lillis.

The second half was more even with Henderson’s glancing header from Matt Done’s corner proving the difference.

“A game isn’t won in the first five minutes. Not every game can be exciting.

“It’s unfortunate that in the football world all you’re judged on is the three points, but we got those three points.”
