Mourinho questions desire of players after worst start in 28 years P49-51

JOSE Mourinho accused some United players of lacking heart and desire after their dismal draw with Crystal Palace.

United failed to score at Old Trafford for the fourth time this season as they suffered their first Premier League goalless draw of the campaign.

Mourinho was in no mood to sugar coat United’s display, which was greeted by boos from the Old Trafford crowd at full-time.

“A bad result,” Mourinho said. “No chance this is one point that we win because they are two points that you lose. I think Palace deserve credit, but we should also blame ourselves for the result.

“Because we started really well and did the most difficult thing apart from score, which is to find the spaces to play against a team that is very closed.

“And my feeling is it was not enough from the heart, we must play with brain, but we must play with also heart and I think there was not enough heart.

“I am what I am. And every individual is a different individual, there are people who have a bad dinner, there is people that will enjoy a nice dinner and there will even be people that will party. I think that’s the way it is.

“What’s the solution? You cannot change players’ natures dramatically. The solution is that probably I have to make certain choices based on heart, and then probably I will play myself.

“You can improve. You can influence players, especially when they are open to it, when a player is open to it and realises he has to give more and change his nature a little bit, they change. There are many, many, many examples, coaches change a little bit, not the DNA, but the player’s emotional qualities.”
