Loanee Pablo is the Spanish pass master

- By DAN O’TOOLE

CITY loanee Pablo Mari has recorded the highest passing accuracy of any player in Spain’s second tier this season.

The centre-back, who signed at the Etihad Stadium in 2016, has achieved the considerable feat while on loan at Deportivo La Coruna.

Mari has made 12 appearances this season, scoring once, with Depor on course for an immediate return to the top tier.

The Estadio Riazor outfit sit second in the table and Mari, who has completed 341 – or 92.7 per cent – of his 368 passes this term, says he is confident of securing promotion with his side just three points shy of leaders Alcorcon.

“I’m really enjoying my football at Depor this season and we are feeling really good about our chances of being in La Liga next season,” the 25-year-old explained.

“The passing ranking is a nice number and, to be honest, I was quite surprised and pleased, but it’s just the way I have always played – trying to keep possession of the ball and to use it wisely.”

Mari’s ability on the ball was one of the factors that prompted City to secure his service from Gimnastic two summers ago, and he says it is a pleasure to watch his parent club break records in the Premier League.

“What Pep [Guardiola] and his team are achieving at City is incredible,” he added.

“It’s a competitive league this year, but to be honest nobody else comes near them in terms of style.

“They will be very hard to beat this season.”
