CORRIE FANS THREATEN TO BOYCOTT SHOW OVER STORYLINE

-

CORONATION Street fans are threatening to boycott the soap after much-loved character Sally Metcalfe was sent to prison for a crime she didn’t commit.

The former Mayor of Weatherfield has been sentenced to four years behind bars for bribery, fraud and money laundering after being framed by slippery character Duncan Radfield.

While Duncan laughed and smirked as he got a two year suspended sentence and 200 hours unpaid work, Sally was a broken woman as she heard her fate.

“As Mayor of Weatherfield a community placed its trust in you act honourably and honestly on its behalf,” said the judge.

“You betrayed that trust and have been found guilty of bribery, fraud and money laundering.”

A ‘Save Our Sally’ Twitter campaign has been launched calling for the mother-of-two to be freed because, well, she didn’t do it.

Graphic designer and illustrator Greg Robertson has made T-shirts, stickers and tote bags to accompany the campaign to get Sally out of her cell. ‘Free Sally’ badges have been made by Royal Ribbons, based in Canada.

Sally was arrested at a Greatest Showmantheme family fun day in August, watched by a crowd of friends and family.

The highly-regarded Underworld machinist was placed well and truly in the frame by new friend Duncan for taking a whopping £40,000 from council charitable funds.

Duncan claimed he was setting up a charity after his wife died from a stroke and asked for her help with a funding application to the council. But Sally was stunned to learn there was no such charity and was painted as a crook who lured him into having an affair with her, leading her to step down as the mayor.

Some viewers are so appalled they have threatened to boycott the soap over the jailing of Sally.

‘Magic Mikey’ tweeted: “The Sally guilty storyline is so horrible that I’m boycotting Coronation Street until Sally is released!

Kania McKalliah fumed: “Have you all lost the damn plot? Get Sally out of jail ASAP. It’s a pathetic storyline and #Corrie you got this wrong!”

And Jeff Waltho said: “#boycott Corrie after the Sally sham watch the viewing figures go down and down.”
