‘I didn’t expect anything else’ CITY ACE SPEAKS OUT ON RACISM ROW AFTER ABUSE AT CHELSEA

- By CHRIS SLATER

RAHEEM Sterling has revealed he wasn’t surprised by the apparent racist abuse aimed at him during City’s game at Chelsea.

The Blues ace said: “I am not normally the person to talk a lot but when I think I need my point to be heard I will speak up.

“Regarding what was said at the Chelsea game, as you can see by my reaction I just had to laugh because I don’t expect no better.”

TV pictures showed Sterling being barracked by Chelsea fans as he recovered the ball for a Blues corner in their 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge. In the video, widely shared on social media, it is alleged one man shouts racial abuse at Sterling.

Police have confirmed they are investigating and Chelsea say they will “take the strongest possible action where necessary”.

Sterling also accused the media of “fuelling racism and aggressive behaviour” towards young black players.

On an Instagram post, Sterling shared a screenshot of an article about young Blues defender, Tosin Adarabioyo, now on loan at West Brom, buying a house worth £2.25m despite having never started a Premier League game.

And Sterling suggested he didn’t believe a young white player would have been made the subject of a similar story.

”For example, you have two young players starting out their careers, both play for the same team, both have done the right thing, which is buy a new house for their mothers who have put in a lot of time and love in helping them get where they are – but look how the newspapers get their message across for the young black player and then for the young white player,” he said.

“I think this is unacceptable, both innocent, have not done a thing wrong, but just by the way it has been worded this young black kid is looked at in a bad light.

“It fuels racism and aggressive behaviour.”
