Cycle lanes are driving motorists crazy...

-

ITS confusing tangle of green cycle paths has seen it dubbed the ‘crazy golf junction’.

And now pranksters have mocked Wigan’s infamous Saddle roundabout – by playing a quick round on its ‘fairways’. Work to create a network of cycle paths at the roundabout on the outskirts of the town centre has been going on since June, causing a major headache for drivers.

Fed up with the delays Michelle Richardson Jackson, her daughter Xenia, 15, and Imogen Watkinson, decided to poke fun at the design by playing fancy dress crazy golf on the cycle lanes. Video of the prank has been shared and viewed thousands of times on Facebook.

Michelle, 45, from Pemberton, recorded the video on her mobile phone while her son’s fiancee Imogen, dressed as a golfer, and Xenia, dressed as a kangaroo, played a few holes.

Michelle said: “It was so funny, we were in hysterics. The comments on Facebook have been great – everyone’s saying it’s brilliant and that we’ve beat them to it. But we are trying to highlight what mess they’ve made of the junction. It’s been going on for months and months and the traffic is horrendous.”

The work is part Greater Manchester’s Cycle City scheme to improve the cycling infrastructure across the region.

Wigan council roads chief Mark Tilley said the roadworks should be finished by Christmas.

He said: “The good news for motorists is the main works at Saddle junction are on track to finish in the next couple of weeks once some final signalling work has been installed and then the site will be cleared.”
