Mother’s agony over tragic baby headstone theft

- By CHARLOTTE DOBSON

A MUM says she has been left ‘heartbroken’ after her stillborn daughter’s headstone was stolen from her grave.

Siobohn Gaffon discovered her little girl’s marble memorial had been taken from Blackley Cemetery and Crematorium on Friday.

Her second baby, Siobohn Gasson, was still born full term in July 2010.

The mum-of-three said the theft has brought back the pain of her bereavement.

Siobohn, 36, from Unsworth, said: “When my nan told me what had happened I felt numb and sick to be honest.

“It means nothing to anyone else, I can’t get over why anyone would take it. I’ve heard of gravestones being vandalised and that’s sick enough. But never this.

“Obviously, I know she’s not here but just seeing her grave like that without headstone, it’s like something has been taken away from me.

“As if losing her was not bad enough, now I feel like I have nothing. I’m heartbroken.”

Siobohn and her husband Oliver hope someone will find or return the stolen headstone.

A fundraising page has been set up by a family friend to help the couple pay for a replacement.

So far more than £450 has been donated by kind-hearted strangers.

Siobohn added: “My nan actually bought the headstone for me as I was not in a good place at the time.

“I have no idea how much would even cost. All I want is for it to be returned to me.”

Anyone with information about TYSON’S Fury’s trainer and his legion of fans have slammed the BBC’s decision not to nominate the Manchester boxing star for their Sports Personality of the Year award.

Fury, 30, this year returned to the ring after a two-and-a-half-year absence following his famous win over Wladimir Klitschko to become world heavyweight champion in 2015.

During that time Fury, born in Wythenshawe and raised in Styal, Cheshire, has revealed he was close to taking his own life as he battled severe depression, which also led him to abusing drugs and alcohol and saw him balloon to 28 stone.

However, this year he shed more Siobohn’s headstone can message the ‘Spotted Unsworth Group’ or email: charlotte. dobson@reachplc.com. than 10 stone in weight and after just two comeback bouts he took on WBC world champ Deontay Wilder in LA and put in a sterling performance in the fight which ended in a draw, but which most in the boxing world felt he had won.

And there was widespread condemnation after he failed to even make the shortlist for the prestigious award, won by cyclist and Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas on Sunday.

Fury’s trainer Ben Davison, who oversaw his incredible recovery and weight loss said: “What an opportunity for @BBCSPOTY to do there part in raising awareness for mental health and many other things, to help inspire people.

“For a man to come back from where he has, while at the same time saving thousands of lives along with inspiring millions. Shame on them.”

His promoter Frank Warren called the decision “an absolute joke.”

Fans and celebrities also weighed in. Piers Morgan said on Twitter: “Tyson Fury not even nominated? What a joke.”

Fellow Boxer Ohara Davies said: “Take somebody out (of the list nominees) and put Tyson Fury in there. Lost 10 Stone, overcame depression, beat WBC heavyweight champion, raising awareness for mentally ill, donating millions to helping the homeless all in the space of about 18 months.”
