New city base for youth charity

YOUTH charity, The Prince’s Trust, is opening a new centre in Manchester.

The base, which will open its doors next summer, will be based at Urban Splash’s Beehive Mill in Ancoats – the former home of iconic nightclub Sankeys.

It builds on The Trust’s existing presence in the area and will significantly increase support for unemployed young people in Greater Manchester and throughout the north west, connecting them with even more training opportunities and jobs.

Plans for the new hub have been drawn up in collaboration with a young person-led design group to ensure the creation of a ‘vibrant, inspirational and innovative’ space in which young people can connect and thrive. The development of the new centre comes at a time when many young people in the area are feeling apprehensive about their future prospects.

The Trust’s 2018 Youth Index report, which measures the happiness and confidence of young people across the UK, revealed that half of young people in Greater Manchester fear that there will be fewer job opportunities in the next three years and that almost twothirds say they regularly feel stressed.

The charity’s latest Futures At Stake report also revealed that young people in the region feel worryingly disconnected from their communities.

It reported 43 per cent of young people in Greater Manchester believe that people in their community do not care about them and a quarter do not believe their actions have an impact in their community.

Last year, The Prince’s Trust supported more than 2,000 young people in the region and that number will increase with this latest venture.

Nick Stace, UK CEO of The Prince’s Trust, said: “We are extremely excited to deliver this new centre in Manchester. At The Prince’s Trust, we firmly believe that every young person should have the chance to succeed.

“This flagship employability and skills hub in the heart of the city will help us to grow delivery of all our programmes and, in doing so, enable even more young people across Greater Manchester and the wider North West to develop the confidence and skills to live, learn and earn.”

The Prince’s Trust is the largest letting at Beehive Mill, which is also home to Noir, White Rabbit, Elegant Digital and Ashley James Consulting.
