IT’S easy to get caught up in the consumerism of Christmas, but plenty of people want to do something good for others at this time of year.

Whether you’ve a whole day, or just five minutes to spare, there are so many ways you can spread festive cheer by supporting communities in Greater Manchester.

There are many brilliant charities and projects helping vulnerable children and adults who find Christmas a struggle.

Here are some of the ways you can help this Christmas.

Lifeshare, the Booth Centre in Strangeways, and Cornerstone, on the edge of Rusholme, will all be open on Christmas Day, one of the toughest and coldest days of the year to be homeless.

The Booth Centre will also run a Christmas day service, and has a Christmas wish list of essentials for their service-users.

Cornerstone, the day centre run by the Diocese of Salford, will be open on Christmas Day and Boxing Day between 10.30am and 3pm, serving hot dinner.

Coffee 4 Craig, the Mustard Tree, Food For All, Centrepoint, Justlife, MASH and Reachout TTC will all also be providing drop-ins either side of Christmas Day.

Visit Street Support Manchester for more information about volunteering with the homeless. to choose between buying food or paying the bills.

For many women and girls, sanitary products are another essential they simply cannot afford.

Every Month is a Manchesterbased campaign combating ‘period poverty’ by providing menstrual products to anyone in need.

They currently make approximately 800 Period Packs a month to distribute to homeless shelters and foodbanks across Manchester.

Christmas is no different, and the Every Month team want to make sure women and girls have enough sanitary products at this time of year.
