Ammies promotion bid buoyed by win

- NON-LEAGUE PREVIEW By ALEX HENDLEY @MENSports

IN the National League, Salford City will be keen to use their midweek FA trophy win over Gateshead to get their promotion push back on track.

They lost 2-0 to struggling Chesterfield in their last league fixture but remain just a point behind league leaders Leyton Orient ahead of their home game against Dagenham and Redbridge today.

In the National League North, Stockport County broke into the play-offs with their 6-0 win at Ashton United on Tuesday and hope to continue their excellent form away at Alfreton Town.

Ashton themselves, meanwhile, have a chance to bounce back from that heavy defeat and break out of the relegation zone. They face Southport at Hurst Cross, who lie just a point ahead of them.

High-flyers Altrincham can continue to put the pressure on Chorley and Bradford Park Avenue as they play Darlington at Moss Lane.

The Robins are four points behind the league leaders with a game in hand. FC United travel to Leamington having climbed out of the drop zone thanks to a 2-0 win over Curzon Ashton.

Although the Rebels sit just two points above the relegation places, a win could take them to within seven points of the playoffs, showing the tautness of the league this season.

Curzon Ashton will take to the field for a second game under Mark Bradshaw against 6th placed Kidderminster Harriers today. They will aim to pull well away from the drop zone.
