Brawl breaks out in crowd at big fight
SHOCKING footage captured at Manchester Arena shows the moment a brawl erupted in the crowd at the Warrington versus Frampton fight.
The venue was full on Saturday night as fans flocked to see Yorkshireman Josh Warrington take on Belfast fighter Carl Frampton.
But the fighting in the ring was unfortunately echoed in the stands after a brawl involving a number of people erupted.
Arena bosses have since condemned the incident, which was brought under control by their stewards and the British Transport Police.
The disturbing footage shows a number of men exchanging blows – with one man unleashing a volley of blows on someone who is out of sight of the camera.
Security stewards can then be seen going to deal with the incident.
Matt Ward, a spokesman for Manchester Arena, said: “Boxing is a long-standing and successful fixture in the arena’s calendar and we are extremely disappointed by the small fracas which broke out between so-called ‘fans’ during the main fight. The incident was quickly brought under control by our stewards with full assistance from British Transport Police who had a significant presence within the arena last night.
“The security procedures and resources in place for last night’s event were more than sufficient to deal with the numbers present but, unfortunately, the spectators in question decided to ignore the instructions of our stewards by attempting to spoil it for the rest of the otherwise good-natured and supportive crowd.”
