Park would be ‘world leader’ in conservation
ACCORDING to the business plan, Manchester Zoo would be a ‘world leader’ in the care, cultivation, welfare and conservation of endangered species.
“The zoo will provide a stimulating, innovative and immersive experience, alongside an entertaining, exciting and educational narrative, aiming to fully engage the visitors to make the most out of their time within the park,” it adds.
“Animal welfare of the highest standards will be delivered, using forward– thinking and employing educated and highly-skilled specialists in the field of zoo biology.”
Mr Houston told the M.E.N: “What we want to do is show people how we can create environments where animals can live, and how we can live sustainably among nature without ruining the natural balance. The Manchester Zoo will hope to be a shining beacon in the community of Greater Manchester to guide in this endeavour.”
He added: “What I am trying to do is harness the energy of bio-inspiration, the magical feeling that people get when they have a special moment with plants and animals, to change lives and inspire a spark in people.
“I want to use this to its highest potential in society, by utilising our unique and incredible zoo environment to promote learning, inclusion, research and personal development in people – and in particular in the guise of programmes designed specifically for the over 60s, ex-military professionals, single parents and other spheres where important skills are all too often lost because there is a lack of flexibility in the working world for elements of people’s lives.
“Animals are cathartic. They’re healers of our mind and body and soul.”
