Willkommen to city’s little piece of Berlin...
AS we gear up to the final few days of 2018, every night is party night.
And just in time for the festivities, a new late-night, Berlin-style basement bar has opened in the Northern Quarter.
Set up by the team behind NQ brunch favourite The Pen & Pencil, Honey Trap Club (HTC) can be found just off Stevenson Square.
Paying homage to the bars of Berlin, where derelict buildings are transformed into some of the hottest night spots, HTC brings a slice of that scene to Manchester with reclaimed furniture, graffiti in the bathrooms, exposed brick, and LED lights.
Located underneath another new venture by The Pen & Pencil team, BAB, which serves gourmet kebabs and mezze dishes, HTC is (purposefully) a little rough around the edges. There is no dress code and it’s free entry every night – ideal for an impromptu night out.
All this alongside top DJs every night, European beers and a range of cocktails.
Kevin Connor of The Pen & Pencil said: “The team have spent a lot of time in Berlin and love the bar scene there, so we have created Honey Trap Club with it in mind.
“We wanted to create something that had a different feel to the rest of the venues in the Northern Quarter to continue the growth of Manchester’s nightlife scene.”
The cocktail menu features no frills, Berlin-inspired tipples, including the Kremlin Reviver, a mix of absinthe, calvados, triple sec and lemon (£9), and 99 Luft Balloons, with Ketel One vodka, creme de cassis, cherry bitters and apple juice (£8).
Happy Hour is from 5pm to 9pm every day, with £3 Berliner beers, £6 disco cocktails or £5 classic cocktail of the week. Plus it’s two cocktails for £10, £3 spirit and mixer, and £10 bottle of house wine.
There is a different DJ on every night at the bar in the lead-up to the new year.
