HOUSE prices in Manchester are rising nearly three times faster than the national average - while London has seen a slump.

The average property price in our city stood at £183,354 in October, according to data released by HM Land Registry.

That is up 6.9 per cent compared to £171,477 in October 2017 - an increase of £11,877.

Oldham saw an even faster increase, with prices up 8.0pc yearon-year to an average of £139,073. Prices in Stockport were up 7.9pc year-on-year, while Trafford was up 6.2pc and Salford by 6.1pc.

Rochdale saw a rise of 5.6pc, Bury 5.4pc, Tameside 5.2pc and Bolton 2.5pc. Even the place that saw the slowest growth in Greater Manchester - Wigan - saw prices rise by 2.4pc, which was in line with the national average.

England as a whole has seen prices increase from £242,003 to £247,914. That is a rise of £5,911, or 2.4pc. Semi-detached houses showed the biggest increase, at 3.3pc, while flats were up just 0.6pc.

The Office for National Statistics said a fall in prices of flats in London had deflated the national figure.

The overall number of residential property sales fell 0.2pc to 277,260.

In terms of regions, the North West of England saw the highest average price growth, at 4.9pc.

London returned the worst figures, with prices falling by 1.7pc compared to October 2017.

With three bed semis in Manchester seeing the highest price rise of all properties in the city, we’ve picked three examples of why they are so popular with buyers.

£184,950 A three-bedroom semi in Newton Heath has been knocked through downstairs to create modern open plan living while outside there’s new decking and a turfed garden as well as a garage.

£190,000 SUPERB semi in the suburb of Levenshulme, being hotly tipped for more price growth. The interior has been transformed into a contemporary des-res and there’s three bedrooms as well as doors out onto a private courtyard garden.

£180,000 IN contrast a semi in Withington has vast potential for someone wanting a project. It is in need of a total overhaul but is on a big plot and there is planning permission in place for a two storey extension. .
