Ammies hoping to get back to their best

- NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL By ALEX HENDLEY @MENSports

SALFORD City remain in second place behind Leyton Orient despite their 2-1 home loss to Dagenham and Redbridge at the weekend, which made it two league defeats in a row for Graham Alexander’s side.

The Ammies face third placed Wrexham today who themselves have only won one of their last five league fixtures.

Both sides will be intent on getting back to their best and mounting an assault on the top of the table, though it will not be easy for Salford; their visitors have the best defensive record in the National League.

In the National League North, Curzon Ashton and Ashton United come face to face at the Tameside Stadium. United’s defeat to Southport at the weekend left them four points from safety, while the Nash will be eager to get over their late disappointment at Kidderminster.

Stockport County and Altrincham play each other for the third time already this season, with both results so far going the way of the Hatters.

Most recently, Jimmy Gannon’s side ended the Robins’ eight game winning streak at Moss Lane with a 1-0 win and would overtake their neighbours with a repeat performance at Edgeley Park.

FC United welcome promotion contenders Chorley to Manchester and need a point to guarantee they don’t slip into the relegation zone.

Their last home game, a 2-0 win over Curzon Ashton, brought their first clean sheet at Broadhurst Park of the season, and manager Neil Reynolds will be hoping for a similar defensive display today.
