Alexander searching for answers as Ammies are hammered

WREXHAM 5 SALFORD CITY 1

SALFORD City manager Graham Alexander says his side need to learn from a ‘harsh lesson’ as The Ammies were well beaten at promotion rivals Wrexham in the National League.

An early goal from Shaun Pearson gave The Dragons a perfect start with Akil Wright and Brad Walker adding another two before half-time.

Ben Tollitt came off the bench to score on his debut on loan from Tranmere Rovers before Tom Walker was sent off for Salford in the last five minutes, and there was still time left for Chris Holroyd to add a fifth and Adam Rooney to score a consolation.

It’s Salford’s heaviest defeat of the season and sees them leapfrogged by Wrexham, who also have a game in hand, but Alexander (pictured) says his side need to move on.

“I’m sure it’s the same as everyone else connected with our club; players, supporters, everyone, it’s a very bad day at the office.

“We’re obviously all extremely disappointed, and the players are hurting. We feel as a group and as a squad we’ve let ourselves down. We can’t hide away from getting beat like that, we’ve just got a lot of questions to answer and have to make sure that we do.

“We can’t just brush it away under the carpet, we have to confront it and face it and find the answers.

“We have to go into Saturday’s game in the best frame of mind we can to make sure we do our best to win, that’s all we can do, we have to take anything we can from here, even if it’s a very harsh lesson, but the most important thing now is the next game.”

The Ammies are back in action at Barrow on Saturday before the reverse fixture at home to Wrexham on New Year’s Day.
