Boxing Day bashing for Oldham as Bunn labels team ‘inept’
CARLISLE 6 OLDHAM 0
OLDHAM were victims of a League Two Boxing Day bashing at Brunton Park, losing 6-0 to Carlisle United.
Hallam Hope gave the home side the lead when he bundled the ball in at the far post following a swift exchange of passes from Ashley Nadesan and Jack Sowerby.
The next counter attack yielded another goal, this time Jerry Yates was rewarded for his slaloming run when Hope laid it back to him for an easy finish.
Despite being 2-0 down at half-time, Oldham were continuing to dominate possession, but the game was soon put to bed by two quickfire goals.
Nadesan headed in from Hope’s cross before captain Danny Grainger placed a freekick into the top corner of Daniel Iversen’s goal.
Jamie Devitt played Yates through to slot past Iversen for his second, and just before full-time Gary Liddle scored Carlisle’s sixth on his 100th club appearance.
“They’ve countered six times and scored six goals. It was a complete lack of will to track back, track runners and defend properly,” Oldham boss Frankie Bunn said.
“Disgraceful. Inept defensively and a lack of will to defend your own goal.
“That wasn’t a team performance that I would like to be associated with and we have to get it right next time.
“Players have taken too many touches, just strolled around, and you can’t do that. You have to do the ugly side of the game first and foremost, which we didn’t. We looked pretty up until the penalty box but that’s where it all broke down.”
