Family’s tribute to hero fire chief who died aged 42

THE family of a senior firefighte­r who died after suffering a heart attack have paid tribute to him.

Rick Henthorne was a watch manager based at Bolton North station, died

The 42-year-old, originally from Egerton, was living in Belmont Village and leaves partner Shelley and four-year-old son William, from a relationsh­ip with previous partner Carly.

He was an organ donor and his two kidneys and liver will be used to save the lives of people on transplant waiting lists.

In a statement released by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service the family said: “Rick was a much loved dad, son, brother and partner and we cannot put into words how much he meant to us, and how much he will be missed.

“He was an amazing dad to son William, who he adored and a wonderful person to be around. There was never a dull moment with Rick, he was full of laughter, always had a tale to tell and lived life to the full with a close group of long term friends.

“The fire service was big part of his life, and to him his colleagues were just like family and I know that he will be missed wholeheart­edly by all of his friends and co-workers.

“He gave so much of his time to others, helping the community and we are so very proud of him. His wish to help others with organ donations will now help and enhance the lives of other people which is a testament to the man he was.” GMFRS posted tributes from fire chiefs on their website.

A statement read: “Our condolence­s and sympathy go out to Rick’s family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time.”

Gary Keary, secretary of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU), said: “It is with great sadness the FBU mourn the loss of brother Rick Henthorne. At this difficult time all our thoughts are with Rick’s family, friends, and colleagues.”
