Latics take three points after ‘proper Oldham’ performance
OLDHAM began the new year with a ‘proper Oldham performance’ after a 2-0 victory over Notts County.
Goals from defenders Tom Hamer and Peter Clarke made the difference and earned Wild a second win in as many games.
Peter Wild said he was delighted with the team’s performance with a lot of his squad suffering from tired legs. “We stuck to our game plan, the lads believed in themselves and believed in their confidence.
“I saw a more comfortable affair. And that’s not being disrespectful to them. I thought we got a foothold in the game a lot earlier then we did against Port Vale and then when we did score, I thought we deserved to score and went into the break really in control of the football match which was pleasing to see.”
An outrageous effort from young 19-year-old Tom Hamer broke the deadlock on the 40th minute. His effort, which looked to be going over, ended up going over the top of the Notts County keeper.
Captain Peter Clarke added a second two minutes into the second half after a free-kick from the left-hand side was floated into the box where Clarke scored a tap-in for his second goal of the season.
Asked what pleased him the most about the performance, Wild claimed it was a ‘proper Oldham performance’.
“The fans here, knowing them as I do, will forgive anything if you work as hard as you can. They did on Saturday and they did today.”
