We have to show EU dictators who’s boss
WHEN Britain joined the Common Market in 1973, we joined it purely on trading terms, which is what it was originally set up for, and our family were generally in favour of it.
It was a good thing we nations should live, work and trade in harmony, even though it took us almost 20 years to get involved, the Common Market being set up during the 1950s.
However, after almost 20 years or so as a member, the politicians decided to stick their oars in and what we have now is the European Union. It seems to have become the case of ‘Do as I say, not as I do,’ and we British are daft enough to follow that rule!
The annoying thing is, the European Union comes up with rules, some of which leave one to think twice about, yet we nations are expected to obey. On the whole we British do without question, but some of the other member states don’t. They say one thing and do another!
The European Union is becoming more and more of a dictatorship by people who have not been elected rather than the elected members we have voted for.
When we had the referendum in 2016, I voted to leave because of the way things were going, as did other members of my family. Leaving the European Union cannot come soon enough. If we leave without a deal, it won’t be long before the other 27 nations realise we mean business and a deal in our favour is more likely to evolve. What we need is a government that’s got teeth and can show it means business against a dictatorship.
One thing I have noticed over the years, it makes no difference what colour the politicians represent, be they British MPs or European MEPs, once they reach London (or Brussels) they don’t want to know us. Well, there is life outside the M25 and the sooner they realise that, the better! Chris Pearson, Stockport
