Masked thugs attack three elderly women in gems raid

- By CLIVE HAMMOND

MASKED robbers attacked three elderly women before stealing jewellery in a terrifying robbery.

Two men went into property on Parsonage Road, Withington, before threatening and punching the victims, all aged in their 60s and 70s.

After injuring the women, the thugs fled in a vehicle – ‘possibly dark-coloured’ – at around 7.30pm on Sunday.

The women were later treated at the premises for cuts and bruises.

Police said the men were around 25-years-old and spoke with local accents.

They were wearing balaclavas and are both described as ‘tall and slim.’ One of the men was wearing a maroon-coloured coat, detectives added.

Chief Inspector Jim Ainscough, of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “This was a shocking and cowardly act, where three innocent women were targeted in their own home.

“The type of person who would think nothing of assaulting members of our community for their own financial gain needs to be apprehended and brought to justice without delay. We have a team of detectives working on this incident and we’re appealing for the public to come forward with any information they have.

“Were you in the area at the time of the incident? Perhaps you saw a car matching that described.

“If you have any details that can assist our enquiries, please get in touch as a matter of urgency.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4995, quoting incident number 1680 of January 6.
