Call this eggs Benedict? You must be yolking...

-

IT probably sounded nice on the menu.

But it’s fair to say this eggs Benedict ordered in Wigan Tesco didn’t quite live up expectations.

Disgruntled diner Thomas Hesketh tweeted a picture of his meal - two poached eggs on a pair of folded slices of ham, drizzled with globules of hollandaise sauce - after ordering it in the supermarket.

It’s since been retweeted more than 2,500 times.

Thomas also tweeted Tesco to complain, writing: “Ordered eggs Benedict in your Wigan cafe and received this monstrosity.”

The Tesco Twitter account replied: “Hi there, I’m very sorry about this happening. Did you tell the staff?”

Thomas, who says he paid £5 for the meal, answered: “Yes, they said they could cook me up another one but it would be the same.”

Hundreds of Twitter users have since had their say on Thomas’s meal.

Stephen Murtagh tweeted: “Looks like it needed a bra, not a knife & fork.”

And predictably, it being Wigan, there were also a few pie gags as well.

Is anybody there? tweeted: “If you will ask for eggs Benedict in Wigan you shouldn’t be surprised when you get a monstrosity like this. Ask for a Butter Pie in New York and you’ll probably get something just as bad.”

A Tesco spokesman said: “A Tesco spokesperson said: “Our Cafe team are really passionate about serving our customers great quality breakfasts and we’re sorry this eggs Benedict didn’t meet our usual high standards.

“We’ve offered Thomas a gesture of goodwill and would welcome him back into store so we can put this right.”
