Hornets secure deal for Abram

- By TOM BRAMWELL

ROCHDALE have secured the signing of Dan Abram for the 2019 Betfred Championship season, despite significant interest in his services from across the division.

The 23-year-old, comfortable at both full-back and in the halves, is the son of former Hornets player and coach Darren.

It is a move that sees Abram link up with new Rochdale boss Carl Forster once more, having played under him at Whitehaven.

“I am honoured and excited to be joining Rochdale Hornets,” said Abram.

“There were a number of clubs that showed interest in me and I thank them for that, but with the recent positive off-field announcements the club have made, plus the chance to work with Carl again, made the decision to join Hornets the right one.

“I can’t wait to meet the rest of the boys at training and for the season to start in what will be a tough, but exciting season.”

Meanwhile, Swinton have appointed Rhodri Lloyd as the club’s new captain, following the departure of Andy Bracek.

The 25-year-old, who has previously captained Wales at international level, will be assisted by Will Hope as vice captain. Mike Butt, Luke Waterworth, Kyle Shelford and Ben Austin have also been named part of the leadership group by coach Stuart Little

Lloyd said: “I’m honoured to captain this historical club and grateful of the opportunity.”
